Experiment: Find the volume of an irregularly shaped solid
tools: measuring cup, cake mixing bowl and a dishpan
place the mixing bowl in the dishpan. Carefully fill the bowl with water up to the brim.
Take the object that you want to measure and hold it just on top of the water's surface.
Let the object sink into the water. Water will spill over the side of the mixing bowl and be caught in the dishpan.
Take the mixing bowl out of the dishpan and pour the water from the dishpan into the measuring cup. The volume of water is equal to the volume of the object.
